Toyota says has no comment on report on profit

TOKYO, April 27 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) said on Monday it had no comment on a report which said the firm's parent current profit in the year to March 31, 1998 was expected to remain nearly flat from an actual 620.41 billion yen the previous year.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper reported on Sunday that Toyota's parent current profit was expected to fall by 30 billion yen from its earlier forecast of 650 billion yen, mainly due to poor domestic sales.

''It was the Nikkei's speculation. We can't make any comment before our official announcement of 1997/98 business results in late May,'' a Toyota spokesman said.

Last Tuesday, Toyota said its domestic vehicle sales last business year fell 15.9 percent from a year earlier to 1.86 million vehicles, while its exports rose 17.3 percent to 1.54 million units.

Nikkei also said Toyota's parent current profit this year was likely to fall short of 600 billion yen, assuming a yen rate against the dollar of 120. Such a profit fall would be the first yearly decline in five years.

I use to think Nikkei has better impact on Dow. In the past one year, I found Heng Seng might be the one. When Hong Kong fell on Monday, Dow fell. When Hong Kong rose last night, Dow is rising now. Nikkei seems not related.??
