OK, Brad. I'm putting you on the spot. After your statement regarding lurkers, 33,000,000 post-seconds were devoted to trying to clarify your thinking for you and Jeff. So, what are you now thinking?
Can you put your answer in terms of a specific set of characteristics for a lurker?
If one has a name and a password under what circumstances would one be considered a lurker?
If one sees ads now, are they a lurker?
And if they don't see ads now, they won't in the future?
If they don't see ads now are they a "fully entitled, non-assessable member?

Using the groups from #reply-4264800, which, if any, of these groups are lurkers?

Thanks a bunch for your thoughtful response.

Brad,

Could you please address what I consider a very important issue for SI? It's Message Filtering, aka The Moron Button.

If this feature were available, we could all be spared the annoyance of plowing through the prolific and obnoxious messages from one or two posters on a thread. These individuals often migrate across the stock threads, leaving poison and animosity in their wake, an effect that undoubtedly discourages posting by others.

These exchanges often turn an otherwise valuable stock-discussion thread into what appears to be a personal chat line devoted to mutual insults "owned" by just a few individuals, who will try to drive away any newcomers who complain. I've found that the only way to stop these brawls is to complain to Jill, and send her a particularly offensive post as evidence of the problem.

I won't name any names of specific posters here, but anyone who wants to see a good example of what I'm talking about can read the Zonagen (ZONA) thread for the past few weeks.

Brad, I beg you: PLEASE ADD A MORON BITTON TO SI!

Several of my friends have taken advantage of the 30-day free trial, and not signed up because of their disgust with the monopolization of threads by offensive posters. Many of these posters are smart enough to avoid the wrath of Jill with patent offensiveness, but, nonetheless, be wholly obnoxious to the others on the thread forced to endure their inanity and/or insanity for weeks or months without cease.

In conclusion, please tell us mgmt.'s position on this issue.

Thanks in advance.

David
