Stocks can turn on a dime for a variety of reasons... But, when an 18 day MA is heading down, it is saying that the trend is heading down... Shorting a stock 40% above that line sounds like it could be profitable until some unsuspected news article comes along to jumpstart the stock... Also, you want to see where the longer term MA's are (55, 89, etc.)... Many times, these MA offer support...
