While we often think about how fragile life is, I am often reminded of how resilient it can be. I agree with you that it is the broad strokes on the canvas that determine the final picture. Having loving caring parents is about the broadest stroke there can be.

Jack, Jhld hits the nail on the head about how well we bounce back. There seems to be a varying degree of tolerance that we have as children and for that matter as adults. We take a fare amount of knocks and it improves us if we let it. But then sometimes we tilt, and then everything shuts down. Times like that it takes other folks who care enough to get things back into perspective and jump start living. This is really getting sappy now, who started this anyway! <g> jim
