I think there is some evidence, but not too strong. Also there are the usual anecdotal reports. I agree with you about smokers' showing consideration for others. The burden of responsibility, it seems to me, is on the one who changes the ambient environment, e.g., turning on a loud radio in a quiet park or blowing smoke into a fresh air environment. Awarding child custody on the basis of parental smoking seems extreme to me, unless the child has some respiratory problem. Lord knows I grew up in a smoke filled house, as did many kids during WWII. All the adults wanted to look like Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in those days, I guess, with the ever present cigarette.
