Vantive Update from H&Q:

1) Luongo hearing from many sources that Siebel is going to kill off the Scopus product, use Scopus domain knowledge and develop CIS apps using sebl engine.

(Given the completely different product architectures this makes sense --, moderating technology integration risk, but leaving SCOP customer base open to poaching and perhaps adding to time delay before delivery of integrated product. Makes for a 6 to 12 month window of opportunity for Vantive and maybe even for CLFY if tony can squirt some adrenalin on the CLFY people.)

2) vantive maintains plans to get much more aggressive in marketing "industry" presence

3) Sees ORCL and SAP as entrants into the sector with solutions in mid-1999. (Perhaps they'll be as successful as SAP was/is competing against JDAS)

4) Claims win rate of greater than 50% against Seibel in SFA.

(Even TD is skeptical here - lots of ways to manipulate that statistic.)

A)win rate is based on units not revenues
B) probably counts sales to existng VNTV customers where vntv is the natural incumbent

Still , it's interesting.

Seems fairly confident going into the results tomorrow.
