As I suspected yesterday... plenty of announcements today due to the RNWK show in San Francisco area:

quote.yahoo.com

...including this excerpt on their new streaming technology "G2":

"RealSystem G2 is based on the industry standards Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) and Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP), and has the ability to stream multiple datatypes, and provide one button access to favorite streaming media programming. RealSystem G2 is the first open, cross- platform client-server system for streaming multimedia on the Internet.

''Microsoft FrontPage 98 users can easily create Web pages and incorporate streaming audio and video content into their sites,'' said Pat Kirtland, group product manager, Microsoft Corporation [Nasdaq:MSFT - news]. ''RealSystem G2 allows our customers who use RealAudio and RealVideo to offer higher quality and more reliable streaming media content in their FrontPage-based Webs than ever before.''

Datatype Vendors Support RealSystem G2

RealSystem G2 is supported by the following datatype vendors who will also be demonstrating at RealNetworks Conference '98: 7th Level, a2b music, CLASS Data, Cosmo Software, Digital Bitcasting Corp., Digital Equipment Corporation [NYSE:DEC - news], Digital Lava, Iterated Systems, LearnKey, Liquid Audio, Live Picture, LiveUpdate, OZ Interactive, and Yamaha. "

Up from here!!

WC, not well I guess. I have been following companies for over 20 years, and its hard to really follow more than 10-15 really well. I think you should cut down by 90% on following your long positions, you might make it. But if you're only doing momentum investing 101,no need to know anything, just ride the wave.

WC,

Well, my opinion is that it's on its way up, but in the short term I'd be surprised if we broke much out of the $30-$40 range.

The Street seems to understand the potential of RNWK, but they also seem to understand that there are still obstacles to overcome, i.e. bandwidth and quality issues. By contrast, other Internet stocks like YHOO and SEEK don't really suffer from the same problems, so they're getting more full valuations.

I'd also like to see RNWK spending more time communicating solutions along with their technology. They seem to be promoting their technical credentials quite a bit, and skimping on actual solutions that their customers implement.

I had no problem finding information about their products on their site, but I had to spend some time looking to see what their users are actually doing. Some of their releases highlight solutions, like their announcement regarding partnering with Macromedia's Authorware product to promote learning. But we need to see more of that.

If they can convey the idea that their technology can produce real solutions now regardless of bandwidth issues then I suspect they'd get a better valuation.
