While I agree that TDFX has to manage competition, I believe there is no reason to get all worked up over the announcement of a competitor. One way to deal with competition is to CUT THE PRICE over time. Analysts models do not assume that TDFX Voodoo2 is going to stay still in price while other boards improve. This is not a surprise.

We all expect competition in this industry. It's actually good for the leader because it drives the introduction of 3D technology from the top and the bottom, which increases the size of the market. The leader disproportionately benefits. Ask Cisco about this. The biggest barrier to shareholder value is not the competition of others but acceptance of high performance 3D acceleration as part of the computer. I don't doubt Matrox will put out a good product. Is it going to kill TDFX? No way.

Why pay the same for a card with less performance that can't run 3Dfx Glide enhanced games? If this card was WAY cheaper than the Voodoo 2 maybe I would worry a little, but probably not. Come on now, you think anyone is going to wait around for this card when they can have a Voodoo now?

You seem to be confusing 3Dfx market. They are after the HIGH end. The G200 is not. I wouldn't even consider this a serious challenger.

If you're short, best of luck...you're gonna need it :-)

>>The G200 will be much more attractive than a Voodoo2 to anyone except guys who are so anal about performance they've already bought an SLI configuration.<<

Hello? The TDFX market currently _is_ people who are "anal" about performance. Why swap out a Permedia/Whatever-came-with-your-system for something else unless it is the best?

Re: "Superior image quality" - pshaw! First off that is in the eye of the beholder. Second off, the Voodoo2 is literally AWESOME! There is no way another card can be discernably better.

Re: "Bundling with Systems" - You are very confused my friend. Banshee is the card that has the potential for bundling by OEMs - Voodoo2 has never been seen as a bundling option.

My advice to anyone who falls for this "beta-board hype" is to make sure, when you are installing this little gem, that you have two free PCI slots that are adjacent to each other. That way you can add the Voodoo2 cards you'll definately be needing after the G200 disappoints! ;-)
