Is it just me or all these so called experts on Wallstreet missing the point here. They talk about brand recognition, and new markets and whatever.. The reality of the Internet and net commerce in my opinion. is a "Instantaneous price comparison market" Meaning, as the net gets bigger Amazon and others will have a hard time keeping their prices up. Competition will come in and underbid the leaders to gain market share. And the scary aspect versus traditional retail is that this can happen overnight being that barriers for competition is non-existent. And I don't want to hear about "brand recognition" That is such a bunch of crap. 3yrs ago no-one knew who yahoo or infoseek or amazon were. Their gateway to the online was AOL and chatrooms.. This is not the case today. Just as people found and flocked to these sites, they will do the same to tomorrow's sites. Whether it be through a search engine gateway or an ISP gateway. Of course this does not mean the end of Amazon or the others. It just means what makes the web so great, new and cheap to do business, makes it dangerous for existing companies on the web. Just think from the standpoint of traditional retail. It is like going into a book store to purchase a book with a representative from every store in town bidding for your business. This is the brave new Internet world. So when I hear that one co. is going to dominate the world, it reminds me of Netscape in it's heyday right after it went public. The future was so rosy until big bad billy boy came to town. Any thought?
Disclaimer-I do not own Amazon or am I short and don't really care which way it goes. Just love discussing the business aspect of the net.
Cheers
