Rick, everyone is entitled to their own opinion about America, because we have freedom of speech here (and in most of the western world as well).

One thing I have always wondered about is whether more recent immigrants tend to be more patriotic than people whose ancestors came a long time ago. I think that living in countries where it is not possible to make a good living, or needing to escape political tyranny of some sort, would certainly make someone appreciate American freedoms, and our relative isolation from most kinds of terror that are periodically inflicted on whole groups of people in other places.

I am not sure if everyone is aware of it, but the history books my daughter is learning about America from are very much more truthful about our history in relationship to blacks, Native Americans, and other peoples we have harmed or exploited. My daughter already has very mixed feelings about American history, and about whether America is a place she is proud to live, and she is only fourteen.
