ISSUES OF FACTS INTERVIEW-Lernout CEO confident on growth "...NEW YORK, April 29 (Reuters) - Computer speech recognition maker Lernout & Hauspie has begun a broad push into the retail markets and Chief Executive Gaston Bastiaens said on Wednesday he was confident the company could stay at or ahead of projections for the rapidly growing industry. Bastiaens made the comments a day after the software maker posted fast-paced first-quarter results that were slightly ahead of brokerage expectations. The company, based in both Belgium and Massachusetts, has begun shipping its Voice Xpress software to top U.S. computer retailers, and chains in Britain and Europe, where it will be on display at a total of 3,500 outlets, the executive said. The software not only lets computer users speak conversationally as they input text into documents, but is the first to allow them to edit the work as well. Most critically, it allows humans to interact casually with computers.
