Since I have gained so much from this thread I would like to contribute something. I was lucky enough to attend H&Q's conference for one day. I saw several presentations and talked to everyone I could who looked like they knew something. Of all the companies I learned anything about, Xylan appeared to have the most potential. They appear to be the only company around who is beating CSCO for switching deals. Take a look at the thread: Subject 4215

My runner-up was PRLS, they just announced a deal with Rockwell to produce embedded chips and they seem to have a nice strategy to assure revenue stream in a growing segment without a lot of competition.

Finally take a look at H&Q itself (HQ) Dan Case is pretty confident about the company's prospects and emphasized enough times that they want to stay "unmerged" that it will take a very high price to get them.
