Data is the future, no? See major breakthrough in wireless for data and for multimedia (huge "data" requirements]. This is the killer ap both in terrestrial and in space IMO. Long way to go but this should be a major advantage for CDMA technology IMO in terrestrial area and satellite. How Loral plays this is going to be a major focus for watching - again just IMO. The opportunities should be there. Not to knock voice, lot's of bucks there with the G* et al, but seems like a reason to be heavier on Loral than G* is the other Loral opportunities for data. Curious whether any of you hot shots agree. Comments? Chaz

Doug, VSAT's hot product goes by the trade name: StarWire. As to the acronym DAMA, maybe we could ask Valueman to spell it out as I frankly forget. But the meat of the coconut is that each transponder carries one hell of alot more phone calls, I mean like gazillions more. VSAT's web page is very good and you could doubtless get the DAMA question answered there but I frankly bit off more than I could chew on all their white papers--too techy for this non-techy.
Agree with Bernard and Dragonfly: the bet is can VSAT transition from primarily a defense contractor to the private sector. If they can, and it's a big if of course, the technology is considered first rate stuff. The pleasant pipe dream is that G* is swamped by demand, the transponders are overloaded, and VSAT gets a zillion dollar contract from Bernard Schwartz to ride to the rescue. Kaching!
Hey, what's wrong with a little fantasy? Regards, Mike
