Inprise Unveils New Professional Services Organization

Consulting, Training, and Technical Support Resources Integrated into
Single Worldwide Organization

SAN FRANCISCO, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Inprise Corporation (Nasdaq: BORL -
news), a leader in distributed enterprise computing solutions, today unveiled its new
Professional Services Organization which integrates a broad range of consulting, training, and
technical support resources into a single worldwide organization.

Inprise executives unveiled the new organization at major press and analyst events in San
Francisco, Toronto, London, Munich and Sydney, as part of its announcement that the
company is becoming Inprise Corporation.

Inprise executives said the new Professional Services Organization is designed to increase
Inprise's effectiveness at helping corporate customers and partners successfully develop and
implement enterprise solutions around the globe. Bob Perreault, vice president of professional
services, will head the organization and he will report to John Floisand, senior vice president of
worldwide sales. Rollout of the new organization in all sales regions will be completed over the
next nine months.

''Inprise's new Professional Services Organization enables us to provide a complete, unified
approach to helping customers maximize their investment in enterprise application development,
deployment, and management technologies,'' said Floisand. ''This new organization is one of
many examples of how the company has evolved to become an enterprise software company.
Inprise is focused on helping customers develop, deploy, and manage distributed enterprise
applications; services and support are an integral part of our total solution.''

In conjunction with the rollout of the new organization, Inprise is also significantly evolving and
expanding its service offerings. Here are some highlights of those changes:

Consulting Services

The scope of Inprise's consulting practice is being expanded to include design, development,
and implementation of enterprise systems and architectures. In addition, consulting services will
become more broadly available to all sales regions worldwide. Inprise will use its consulting
services in partnership with existing and new systems integration and consulting partners to
deliver the required to solutions to large, enterprise customers. The Inprise Business Solution
Program currently includes more than 50 high-level systems integrators and value added
partners in the US. Inprise also has hundreds of partners around the world who provide
value-added services and support to corporations.

Inprise is also expanding the consulting resources at its OEM Customization Center, which was
introduced late last year. The Center provides tailored consulting services to Inprise partners
that need assistance with embedding Inprise technologies into their products and/or
architectures.

Training Services

Inprise will continue to leverage its successful enterprise-training model that includes training
with partners and training through partners on a worldwide basis. Partners are a critical element
to Inprise's success, and the company will continue to expand it efforts to train and work
closely with partners across all Inprise product lines.

Inprise is moving from a ''product-specific''-only training model to include a new
''solution-oriented'' training model as well. This new model integrates training on multiple
Inprise products, as well as third-party products, into training on building enterprise solutions.

''This evolution of training is a direct result of our consulting experience with major customers
that use multiple Inprise products in their enterprise application development,'' said Perreault.
''The valuable experiences of our consulting organization have been the starting point for the
development of our new solution-oriented courses.''

Technical Support

Inprise is integrating its worldwide technical support resources into one worldwide system to
better support large, multinational enterprises. This will enable Inprise to scale support
resources to meet the needs of any organization it is serving, including those with geographically
dispersed locations.

Programs for Service Partners

The Professional Services Organization is also responsible for programs that enhance the
knowledge transfer to and the education of Inprise service partners around the world. These
programs include:

The Authorized Education Center and The Certified Education Partners Program are for
companies that have been authorized to train customers in Inprise's technology.
The Certified Instructor Program certifies independent training instructors who have
successfully completed an exhaustive set of courses on how to teach Inprise products
and technologies to customers. In order to work as a subcontractor to Inprise, an
independent instructor has to be certified first.
The Certified Professionals Program enables third-party consultants to be certified by
Inprise to work on consulting projects that involve Inprise technologies. Any independent
consultants who work as subcontractors for Inprise have successfully completed the
certification process.

"Therefore, I would assume that Del will try to keep any one time charges minimal this quarter and try to have the quarter have good results with no excuses about one time charges"

Changing the name of a company is a non-trivial exercise, financially. Most organizations would assess these costs and take them as a one-time charge, rather than allow them to lift the expense run-rate in ongoing quarters.

On past evidence, I'd say this is exactly what will be done here. The only missing piece of information is how much it is going to be.

p.s. If this was a "known future cost" before last quarter end, maybe the provisions have already been made. Wouldn't that be interesting?
