HP CONTRACTORS TO MAKE INKJET PRINTERS IN BRAZIL -- The move, the
company said, was part of the its Consumer Product's manufacturing
strategy, which aims to ensure that each region is capable of providing
products quickly and cost-effectively to the retail and commercial channel
in the region in which it operates, for better flexibility and lower costs.
HP has contracted manufacturing services with two US-companies with
worldwide facilities: SCI in Campinas, Brazil, and Solectron, in Sao Jose
dos Campos, Brazil. HP foresees Brazilian-based production, which begins in
May, generating jobs in manufacturing assembly and support, material
handling, procurement, distribution and transportation, and result in the
transfer of its high-technology processes. HP currently has sales, support,
consulting, marketing, leasing, financing and R&D operations in Brazil, as
manufacturing facilities for personal computers and UNIX system servers --
and manufacturing operations in Guadalajara, Mexico, and sales and
marketing operations in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and
