Platinum Entertainment develops Web CD service

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., April 29 (Reuters) - Platinum Entertainment Inc. (PTET - news) said Wednesday it is developing a Web-based ''entertainment
emporium'' which will allow consumers to download music and create customized CDs in their homes.

Platinum Entertainment has partnered with PLATINUM Technology Inc. (PLAT - news) in developing the service which is expected to be fully operational in the
third quarter.

Users will be able to digitally download CD-quality music to their computers and create their own CDs. Compact disk recorders and software will be available
from Platinum Entertainment's Web site for about $200.

Prices will be comparable to retail CDs, but specific pricing has not yet been set, the company said.

The service will also provide standard mail delivery of almost 500,000 commercial titles and customized CDs.

Customized CDs must be compiled from Platinum Entertainment's own library of 12,000 blues, pop, classical, gospel, country, new age and urban/dance music
titles, along with new releases by various artists.

Music samples will be available online, as well as live broadcasts of interviews and performances, chat sessions and other interactive programs.

Shares of Platinum Entertainment were up 1-7/8 at 13-3/4, and shares of PLATINUM Technology were up 3/16 at 24-3/8.
