No no, I'm taking about just before Dec deal and the channel stuffing so to inflate the stock. And your right this management did goof, big time, although you say "might have goofed" as if you aren't sure. Well go and look at the value of your investment. They miscalculated what the market would do to their stock. And don't tell me that management miscalculate the inventory by a mile. There are smarter than that and so I'm.

I still think Cpq is a good long term investment, if management learned something from this, however you would do better in Dell by a country mile. That's all.

Dear Eddie: Their acquisitions have been brilliant. They bought Tandem which put them squarely in the heart of what is going on in e commerce today- non stop fault tolerant computing. They bought DEC and projected themselves into a vast number of corporate enterprises over night all over the globe. Therefore you are correct in urging all to take a long term view of this company. It is going to out IBM - IBM. They did the sensible thing they overbuilt so they unloaded. Business doesn't always go the way the analysts would like it to go. They have great products great service and they have all the bases covered. They are also an internet stock when you consider that Digitals Alta Vista is the driving force behind Yahoo.

I noticed that your tone on this thread is more subtle than on the DELL thread.

I'm not sure I'd trust CPQ management just yet. I've been castigated on the DELL thread for talking about past accomplishments for the reason that 'what's behind you is not important'. I don't agree with that, but I found it interesting that on this thread you were willing to forgive CPQ's management in light of past successes (which may or may not have any relevance for the future of Compaq). Yet, on the DELL thread, you defend Compaq as if no missteps have been made by its management. Is this incorrect?
