[telia/aol] hi tom, from the last cc... (rough transcription)... a question was asked about a recent telia adsl trial announcement win by nokia... whether orctf was partnering or competing with nokia? : "there are a few departments in the telia entity, orckit was selected by telia together with two other co's for a trial in the past .... right now there is a office of deployment contract inside of telia that we are competing for... in addition to that there are also trials that... telia and other co's are trialing other equipment... this was not done thru a competitive bid, this trial, and we were not fighting for it.... ... we are competing with nokia on the deployment contract of telia.. (not the trial mentioned)" ---- just reread the gte/aol adsl trial announcement... altho not specifically mentioned, it seems pretty clear that orctf will be involved in a portion of the initial trials.. altho the trials will be handled by gte internetworking and will work with various regional phone co's and their respective adsl venders... one of the phone co's named was gte corp... and we know who they will be using... :) cross referencing the gte trial areas todate with the aol trial areas announced, brings up a match: Redmond WA.. the first step in the gte rollout will be converting their existing trials to fujitsu/orctf equipment for broad-market deployment... ... which for redmond would set the stage quite nicely for the aol trial as well ... two birds or something like that... "...America Online will become the first national Internet online service provider to offer this opportunity to residential consumers. GTE Internetworking will provide the integration services for these initial tests, coordinating between AOL and the regional phone companies providing the DSL service in selected markets across the country, including Bell Atlantic and GTE Corp ... AOL's initial field trials will take place in Birmingham, AL; Phoenix, AZ; the Greater Bay Area, CA; the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC; and Redmond, WA. "bbn.com believe this looks promising.. no? s
