ISRAEL - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (CHKPF - news) eased 7/8 to 29-1/2 in heavy trade.

''The stock has been in a consistent down trail since they had disappointing earnings last week,'' a trader said. The shares also have been hurt by fears that Microsoft Corp. (MSFT - news) might try to move into its network security market.

If anyone is interested, I posted a quick analysis of CHKPF on the Value Investing thread:

Message 4280047

Nothing CHKPF folks haven't seen before, but any comments would be appreciated. I don't understand why CHKPF is weighted down with fear uncertainty and doubt, while the rest of the internet universe rockets toward the heavens on little or no profits.

Does anyone have any further comments on the slowing of top line growth this quarter? It is hard to tell if it is just a blip or a real concern.

Current 1998 earnings estimates (1.45) are below 4 times 1Q98 (4 x 0.41 = 1.64). Analysts seem to think that 1Q98 was an aberration and that the year will closely resemble 4Q97, and that CHKPF will level out and go into a much slower growth stage.

I do not agree with this assessment.

Jay,

Ya know, I bought 200 shares at about 43 and something, and have seen a loss of what $3,000 on paper, and I'm not even bothered by it, either I'm finally learning how to master my emotions or I'm supremely stupid.

Since, I know, I am not the latter but the former, I feel very comfortable in understanding why the stock is declining, which is that the lemmings are in force jumping off the cliff. Let them, be patient, relax, have a beer, enjoy the weather, life is short (then we die). chuckle.

Soon will be time to buy, be patient.

On the other hand, I'm buying heavily into some other securities, so again, understand CHKPF is still under pressure and will remain so until some change in psychology.

Good luck.
