Don: Yes, this thread is quite quiet. I am very interested in this because I think it presents good opportunities in the future. I mentioned in an earlier comment that it seemed a little early to get in to Asia (back in January). It appeared I was wrong. Now, I may get a 2nd chance - a do-over, as we often get in the market. I have not traded any WEBS yet because I did not think it was safe yet. But I noticed that liquidity could be a problem also. Many of the issues trade thinly. They are also going to be adding some countries. So, right now I am just a curios person trying to follow them for a while and learn how the WEBS react. My wife and I are currently in Singapore (our home is near Houston, Texas). We have been here 16 months and will probably be here until August 2000. Japan: In my opinion, Japan is using its money to prop up the market and has apparently decided not to intervene on the yen, at least not until 135. The intraday ups and downs are just to sharp. Something is going to pop, either up or down. Probably down. Just my opinion. A lot of analysts predict the Yen will hit 140-160 with those going out on a limb saying 180-200! (Those same ones are saying Nikkei to 12,000) I watch CNBC Asia here in Singapore because it is the only thing on during the day. The latest from CNBC - Hong Kong - either the Hang Seng goes or the Hong Kong Dollar peg to the US Dollar goes.... Indonesia is a mess. It took Singapore down with it yesterday. Many Singaporeans have a lot of investment in Indonesia and Asia. South Korea is a mess. Labor troubles. China - devaluation? Most analysts here think so. China says no, so that probably means yes. The Chinese government often phrases it in terms of "We can't" not "We do not need to" or "We won't" There is simply no good news coming out of Asia. I cannot believe the US market is ignoring this. It has to hurt profits somewhere, whether because Europe trades more with Asia and it will slowdown Europe which will slowdown US or something.... I will try to be more specific in future messages if you would like. Joe
