>>There is a decent chance that they pull it off but simply dismissing the risk of a failure is an attitude similar to an ostrich sticking its head in the sand. How did you get the ratings to be under the appropriate columns?? I tried and failed. I guess "F" for me, and A+ for you. Anyway, I agree with you that any integration is a lot of hard work. The MSA and McCormack & Dodge Integration never really happened. Internal infighting was more the reason than technological issues (which were huge). What I meant by Ego, time and magic glue, is that your rating could change in favour of the NEW Siebel. Siebel will have to do a lot a marketing and PR to cover the issues related to integration. After all, this is not new and has been done before. Siebel's salesforce and marketing department could easily come up with an integration strategy (or white paper), explaining: 1) They took one of the best Customer information System in the market (to compete against vntv). By the way, Mr Prospect, we are the best in SFA. 2) They will support current and future Scopus product 3) WHILE, preparing both applications to integrate in some near future (nice graphs and presentations how this will be done).. This will provide them with time, and ability to continue selling both products. Yes, vntn has a better integrated product, but they have a product (SFA) that is not really proven. In respect to Field Service, Scopus was developing a module. The mechanics of Field Service is similar to SFA. So the combination of Scopus and Siebel in this case could come up with something as well to compete in this market. Finaly, Ego. Tom wants to be among the big boys (SAP, orcl, psft). If acquisition was part of his strategy, then it's a good one.
