I'm finally using Vantive now - started our pilot program today. And the stock is up, what more could I want? :-)

The mechanics of Field Service is similar to SFA

In what way are they similar? I would have expected them to be very different, from the way the information is organized (by customer/prospect and salesperson in SFA, by service contract in field service) to the decision-makers in the sales process and the reason/justification for purchasing a system to begin with. I also expect that field service will be more ammenable to a vertical-market approach (lots of commonality within an industry but not much across industries, while SFA has more horizontal opportunities.

I think you underestimate the difficulty of the integration challenge here-remember the Clarify/Metropolis debacle (sorry Kevin).

SEBL did what you suggested several weeks ago. Their white paper on integration is available for downloading from their web site.
