scba: It seems to do it latter in the afternoon. I just checked my Find Fast program that comes with Office. I turned it off, which was reading the drives every 2 hours. But I don't think that's it because it would do that churning in the morning too.

I also have Norton Utilities. I've checked all it's programs and have turned it off and that did not work.

All I know is that it drives me nuts when it starts. It's like when you close a program, the disk runs while closing down the program.

When it's doing it's thing the CPU is tied up and you have to wait and wait to update your browser, or anything.

I've done the control/alt/del to call up the task window but there is nothing that I notice running.

Oh well.
