Thread: why is KLAC underperforming the group? KLAC is just above its 12/97-1/98 lows, and more than 50% below its 10/97 high. Only KLIC is doing as bad. Meanwhile, AMAT and NVLS are still 20% or so above the 1/98 lows, and are not as far off their highs. KLAC dominates its niche as thoroughly as INTC does in microprocessors. Is this just a case of Mr. Market liking big companies because he's heard of the name and knows they are liquid? Are people worried that AMAT is moving into KLAC's niche (this seems a real but rather distant prospect)?
