Thanks for the explanation Gary. Although, not being a baseball fan, I'm afraid the Gwynn vs Fielder analogy is rather lost on me :-) But might I guess that Gwynn is a pitcher and Fielder a catcher?

Gary, can the stock be called away only at expiration and not before? I haven't done any options trading, but I have been considering it. The only thing holding me back from writing covered calls is not knowing when the stock may be called away. If the stock is only called away at expiration then it can be profitable to write calls at the top of the range and buy them back at the bottom.
