hey bob--many years ago i became the "computer idiot" on the AIM bb's. i'm not about to give that title up easilly. you're new around here so be more aware that certain ones of us have established a certain "persona" on these boards and we resent some newcomer with a fancy moniker coming on board and stealing our thunder.

Double click on it. Windows will start Excel for you and open the file. Be sure to save it with a different file name so that you always have the original to go back to if you somehow trash the first copy. Actually, you can also go back to mail and save the attachment again.
