David, I can't post to myself, so here is my follow up post. All - This is a summary of MU history and financial data, for the fundamentalists, with sources. This is in response to misleading data from Skeeter. First, the financials since 1985, then followed by the company history, primarily dealing with megabit production. In 1981, MU completed construction of its first fab, and began production of 65k DRAM, and shipped the first production in Oct 82. In 83, MU completed the first shrink of it's 64k die, and was subsequently shrnk several times. The fab also converted from 4" to 5" wafers. In 84, MU went public with 2.1mil shares, symbol DRAM. MU built a 2nd fab plant. In 85, foreign competitors began dumping DRAMs, selling them for as low as $0.25. Eleven US manufacters exited the DRAM business. Micron filed a 64K DRAM anti-dumping petition. In 87, MU introduced the 1 Meg DRAM. In 88, MU completed Fab III, and went to 6 inch wafers. In 89, MU and IBM signed a cross-licensing tech agreement. MU is licensed to use IBM process technology and 4 Meg design developed by IBM. Micron also signed an agreement with SANYO Electric, giving exclusive dist. rights in Japan for all MU component products. In the fall of 1991, Micron began the transition to the 4 Meg DRAM, and produced its first 16 Meg DRAM wafer. In Apr 92, MU files an anti-dumping petition for 1 Meg chips from Korea. In Sept 92, the Commerce Dept agreed. In Jun 93, MU announced a patent cross-license agreement with Golstar Electron Co., Ltd. In Aug 93, MU began Phase II of a manufacturing expansion, including a 138,000 sq ft and 60k sq ft bldgs. In Feb 94, MU announced a tentative patent cross-license with Hyundai Electronics. In Oct 94, MU and ZEOS (now part of MUEI) executed a merger agreement. In Nov 94, MU announced the availability of engineering samples of its 64 Meg DRAM in 16 Meg x 4 Meg organization. In Apr 95, ZEOS merger completed. In Jun 95, MU announced its new web site. In Jul 95, MU broke ground on Lehi, Utah site. In Feb 96, MU announced its plans not to outfit or equip the Lehi plant until market conditions warrant. In Jun 96, MU announced the launch of the MicroStamp.
