The only downside I see is if you have the certs and the house catches fire, so if you sell
you could not mail back the certs. I bet even in that case there is some fee you pay to
re-generate the certs, but I would not want to chance it. I would lock them away.>>>>

Yeah, happened to me except the house didn't go up in smoke, my memory did. I plum lost my certificates and forgot where I put them. You're right re: " some fee you pay. " Which was nominal vis a vis the value of the shares. It was a small % ( tax deductible ) of the total worth of the investment. That said: when you get them in the mail STOP whatever you're doing, go directly to your bank, and put them in a safedeposit box ( also tax deductible ).

As I posted previously, used to be if you sent in your certs. a few days late, no big deal. With the recent 3 day settlement date policy brokers get a little more frisky if your certs. come in a few days late but if you're in good standing with your brokerage usually not a problem. But remember this: You are the owner of your shares and you can sell them anytime whether they're on the stage coach or orbitting Jupiter --- as long as they're registered in your name.

At the risk of beatin' up on this poor horse--why in the world would we not call in our certs? There is no longer any reason to keep our$$$ kept within the narrow bounds of an artificial trading range of 6-8.
A range, that we and others know, is preposterously low.
