If you're near a Computer City, check out the Digital Research 17" monitor there for $299. It's made by MAG, one of the better monitor makers. It has a 3 yr warranty, toll free support, and similar specs to what you mentioned. It is identical to the 19" one that I, and about 12 of my friends purchased recently. A really fine monitor. If you're not near one, you can call 1-800-thecity, and they'll ship it to you for free. Sorry, don't know the sku number, but the sku for the 19" is 32-01015. By the way, the 19" has been on sale for $499 this weekend. Perhaps, if you can swing the bucks, they'll honor the sale price. I personally think the improvement seen in the 19" is worth the extra $200, but you will have to decide if it is for 4 of them. These are the best buys I've seen on monitors in a long time, and I'm a perpetual shopper of computer stuff. I also have access to wholesale prices, and these blow them away. I personally don't like Computer City, but I made an exception in this case. Plus you have 14 days to return it, if you change your mind.

Best Buy carries a lesser one, the Pro-View, for the same price. Similar specs, but this is more of a generic monitor, with a lousy, boilerplate manual, and unknown manufacturer.

Hope this helps, S.W.

Nice seeing you again.

Len

P.S. If you're the one I recently made this suggestion to, NEVER MIND <g>

Monitors, YOU see what it Displays

You should make every attempt to see both monitors displaying the types of apps you will be using (and at the res you will use). Also play with the controls and see what you like/dislike about each.

This is the only way to buy a monitor! You will be looking at this beast for the next 5 to 7 years so make sure you chose what you like before you purchase.

Mitsubishi 87txm - 17 inch monitor - Rated #1 - Flat Screen

Cheapest I found on PRICE WATCH: $477

pcworld.com

I held off buying the Sony Trinitron 200ES. It only had
a one year warranty and does not deserve the SONY name
as suggested by several people I've talked to.

ACER 79G - also has the mitsubishi dimatron tube
but actually costs a bit more than the mitsubishi.
