The only reason people think that it 'seems to be a better index to follow than the Dow' is because they told you so: "The Index was created as an alternative to the current market indicator Dow Jones Industrial Average." You know how many times I've heard that? Everyone thinks they've created the next Dow Jones Industrial Average. But you know what??? A vast majority of these indices fade away within 12-24 months. And even IF the index happens to survive, it will most likely survive with extreme lack of interest (which you will notice in the options volume each day). This US60 index was created because alot of venodrs are pissed about how much Dow Jones wants to start charging for their live index feed to be disseminated to clients. It's an ENORMOUS amount of cash. So this index was created and is being given a way for free. Any vendor can calculate it themselves and send it to their clients for free. They're hoping to grab some of the intertest from the Dow. IF it was to work, then they'd start charging for live time pricing as well. I doubt it'll work though... We'll see.
