Clark: I know that Ericsson was not likely to be a big CDMA user at the present time, but I believe that they will have to enter the field eventually to take Qualcom head-on. I didn't know that Eric. had purchased Globalstar, but that might be the starting place.
Personally, I think the CDMA chip was designed by vlsi for Eric.'s competitors just to let Eric. know that vlsi had and could get other customers. This was done in response to Eric.'s squeeze of vlsi when they insisted that TI be a second source for vlsi chips. I might be wrong, but the timing makes it seem to me that they have a small pissing contest going on.
In any case, right now we should be trying to figure out what this new chip will add to the bottom line...any guesses?
