Thank you sincerely Mr. rent for posting the cable labs info. My understanding is that this is the preeminent group re anything ip and digital in coax. IP telephony will also be part of this offering.

I like these excerpts: It was agreed that OpenCable(TM) set-top boxes will be based on high performance microprocessors with real-time operating systems. The Executive Committee agreed not to specify a single microprocessor or operating system. And, most interactive services will be implemented at the middleware layer using existing open Internet specifications, including HTML, CGI, JavaScript, and popular plug-ins. CableLabs has contracted with Scientific-Atlanta to assist in integrating the various components of the specification to use Scientific-Atlanta's expertise in this area to ensure that the different specifications do ultimately work together in an end-to-end system.
