ERICSSON GSM 900 NETWORK LAUNCHED INTO OPERATION FOR MASCOM WIRELESS IN BOTSWANA The first phase of a turnkey GSM 900 system delivered by Ericsson for the network operator Mascom Wireless has been launched into operation in Botswana. This first phase was built in record time in order to provide mobile telephone service to the Botswana administration during a recent state visit. The total value of the contract with Mascom Wireless is approximately USD 10 million (SEK 77 million) and includes complete GSM 900 infrastructure and value added services equipment such as voice mail and SMS. When the network is completed in 1998, it will primarily cover densely populated areas as well as certain tourist locations. Ericsson has now delivered GSM networks to South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Marocco, Libya, Madagascar and Ghana offering GSM subscribers worldwide international roaming possiblities to and from the African continent.
