Democratization of the marketplace:

To All who are participating in this forum, what I am about to say doesn't have much to do with the technicals of investing/trading - I leave that to the more savvy and astute members of the forum. However, I do consider myself somewhat of a student of sociology, current affairs and history - which I will try to tie together here, if you will bear with me.

We are in fact as we sit here at our computer terminals, participating in, and watching a revolution unfold. I tried to think of historical comparisons to what's happening here and I keep getting drawn back to Athens, Greece several milleniums ago - one of the crown jewels of western civilization. When was the last time anyone can think of when people who are concerned and interested in a particular topic can get together and discuss/debate the merits/demerits? Athens, Ancient Greece perhaps?? This forum provided by the advent of the Internet has allowed us to recreate that ancient situation. We can directly voice our opinions, be it pro or con, without having to go through the "filtration" of representatives/parlimentarians. And each of us can individually make up our mind based on what we have heard and seen. This is democracy at its very core - the OPENNESS and PARTICIPATORY features.

Now you may ask what this has to do with investing? Well, power is vested in the ones that have free and unfethered access to information. It is a well known fact by governments after governments throughtout history that if they want to control their populace, they control the flow of information and they have the upper hand. Just ask any authoritarian government. That's why the internet is very frightening to a lot of people in power throughout this planet. Translate that to the stockmarket -> without the internet, unless you're an insider e.g. MM, or other WS types, when an MM headfake is performed, the average Joe or Jane investor would fall for it. But for the internet, we have people like Rico and WD posting all the action ongoing for all to see. So the analogy: prior to the internet, the MM control the flow of information and the rest of us are left in the dark - power WAS in their hands. BUT NOT ANYMORE!!! Like Byron sez, WE CONTROL THE VERTICLE and all 360 degrees if we stick together. Remember the fall of the Iron Curtain in eastern europe in the late 80s? Some people may be aware that the FAX machine played a critical role in that event, especially in the Czechoslovakia if I recall correctly. Imagine if the internet was available then. I would not wish to be a member of the ruling politburos of some of these countries now, especially if this revolutionary medium becomes more widely available.

Why is the internet so revolutionary one might ask?? What about the telephone, radio or TV? In my opinion, it is bigger than all these for a number of reasons. Take TV or radio for instance, the reason the internet is more powerful than those mediums is because TV and radio are passive, i.e. you basically get what you are spoonfed. Not the internet, case in point here, we are PARTICIPATING actively - it's not just a one-way traffic, it is two ways, 3 ways, 1000 ways. As for a comparison to the telephone, until you can get to the point where I can do a conference call with 1000 individuals all at once, the internet will have to do. And it is precisely the participatory and active nature of this medium that allows what we are seeing here unfold. Say for instance if Bryon were to say something that was a total lie and pass if off as fact, what would happened? My guess is that a ton of people, including macker, Mr. D, Rocketman, Juanita, DWlima, Bullmarket etc etc...., would be double, triple and quadruple checking up on the story and within hours, the lie would be exposed. Byron wouldn't stand a chance! And I would hope that people continously do that - corroborate through independent sources on the validity of various facts. That's the beauty of this!!

Well, enough rambling from me, I will stop and I would appreciate any input and constructive criticism - whether this is a bunch of bs or whether there is some merit to what I am saying. TIA.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WELCOME TO THE REVOLUTION!!!

Goodnight all!
