My experience tells me that when a stock is in demand, the market makers will pretty much ignore limit orders on the buy side. I'm not sure whether it's an extra step in the processing or what but that's what they do.

I don't think any of the market makers are short this stock. Everyone but LCAP has gone back and forth between the bid and ask and evened out their positions. My best information is that LCAP had 5-million shares to sell - at least. They should have been long gone however.
