All: Just spoke to a sales person who's dumping her Nextel phones due to lack of coverage and competitive pricing.

Seems there are a bunch of dead spots west of Boston and the phone is not effective when she does business between Worcester and Springfield, Mass. She made the decision when the car broke down on the Mass pike and she couldn't call for help.

As far as the pricing goes, Cellular One is offering her a deal for an additional $10/person/month where you can talk to anyone else who has this plan as much as you'd like for free. Cell One's been saying that you dial a few extra digits and you can have a two way conversation without having to "push to talk".

Personally, I'm long on Nextel but I do believe that competition will slow this party down. I'm not convinced that 5 digit direct connect is much better than seven digit direct connect and pricing is a place where local wireless companies know how to compete.

I see absolutely no strength in Nextel at the moment. The mm have been trying to find buyers by opening up the spread several times today. Each time, none surfaced and the stock fell back. Getting close to the annual meeting, we should begin to see some support.

I have just bothered to read the last 150 messages or so. Like the stock, like much of the info, but am confused about one thing:

Ed sits on the fence so long that he needs a saddle, and that's OK

but Al G. thinks he has a better place for the money short term, and people get upset...

Just wondering

Wonderbread: Thanks for the tip, I'm stuck again in short term stocks, Microsoft.

Can't get out til Bill settles.

Since you mentioned short term, lets take a look a Microsoft. It is almost back to where is was when it split, how many months ago? I bought it at close to the same price as long term investors. Maybe I'm stupid, I don't know, but I don't plan to watch it go up then down again. We all can't buy low and sell high, but after watching and riding out a few long term cycles, why ride the forth back to where you started? Is that good money management?

But, like I said, what the heck do I know, at least I'm not lazy, I keep Schwab in commissions, and my stock doesn't gain any weight from inaction.<VBG>

Regards from

Al G., first subscriber on the Nextel call girl network, direct connect sounds good to me.<VBG>
