Many battery characteristics are a function of the charge or discharge rate divided by the storage capacity of the battery. Draining 1 Amp from a 500mA-hour battery is much different than draining 1 Amp from a 50A-hour battery. 'C' rate is the ratio of amps to amp-hours. A rate of 1C will discharge any battery in 1 hour. For the 500mA-hour battery, 1C = 500mA. For the 50A-hour battery, 1C = 50A. Charge and discharge rates can then be referred to as 2C, C/4, etc., and the characteristics associated with that rate are strictly a function of the battery chemistry, not the battery size.
