sorry, I wrote my previous post before seeing your response to gbull... so to be more specific: yes, homosexual groups were very critical (whether justly or not is not relevant here) of HIV testing with regard to privacy issues - but their fears were made possible precisely *because* those tests had to be done in a central lab, so that patient & doctor had to relinquish the blood sample & send it through an impersonal, remote, "black box" type organization.

Wouldn't it therefore be logical that the same interest groups should be the prime advocates of POC & OTC testing? Do you know what stance (if any) these groups have adopted wrt. POC & OTC HIV tests?

(I'm not trying to bait you here - I agree that we should keep political disagreements out of this forum. I'd be interested to hear an answer though, since, yes, these groups do put political pressure on the FDA, and so their stance wrt. POC/OTC is material to TRIBY.)
