Henry,

Indonesia, with its large diverse population and large area, presents a very interesting scenario to closely observe in the near future.

Given the current woes of the government which I understand it to be not only corrupt, but one could consider it the extension of the Suharto family, will now face this crisis under a new set of circumstances, crippled by the current economic downturn, and under the close scrutiny of the IMF eye.

I wonder with so many islands that comprise the country, one (or many), may want to choose the route of independence, much in the way of the former Soviet Union... An Island has always been a major advantage in protecting whatever ideology/position for those living in it, England and Cuba come easily to mind.

I doubt highly that the Suharto government would have the commitment, willpower, and support to counter such possibility.

I wonder how the Chinese would look upon such disintegration.

Z.

Henry....>chuckle<....'Cartoon Potentates'
Wonderful description
I think they've said that about the Italians too....

I know you coined 'kleptocracy'....also very good
Webster's....kleptomania -- neurotic impulse to steal esp. without
economic motive

Asia's still on the 'sea-saw' especially Japan....
Wonder what would happen if Japan's financial reserves were actually
a lot less then publically presented..?
Be a mess for all those savers.
