We're already using fiber on some of our Sun servers, seems to work great.

Torben: Thx once again for an enlightening response. ADPT would have liked Ultra SCSI to dominate the IO mkt. However, they are now being squeezed on 2 fronts. On the low end, UDMA has gained. On the high end , ultra SCSI has to now compete with Fibre. Whilst this fight is currently developing, The new 1394 device Bay which MSFT supports may gain wider acceptance.

In brief I think ADPT is going to face a lot of competition going forward. Would be interesting to know their long term plans to hold on as Market Leaders.
