>they werent tightlipped last fall.

From this old moth-balled clipping it appears ADSL in Europe is primarily Alcatel and too a much lesser extent Fujitsu/Orkitt. Or course things could have changed since then. I sense WSTL's game plan is cumbersome but large. They've been very good this year at avoiding the hype. Could this be the result of self-assurance? One hopes.....

U.K. BT May Tie With Japan
Fujitsu, France Alcatel: Report

AP-Dow Jones News Service

LONDON -- British Telecommunications PLC (BTY) is
poised to announce a ground-breaking alliance with
Japan's Fujitsu and France's Alcatel that will revolutionize
its traditional phone network and allow it to carry video
and internet services on enhanced telephone lines.

According to an article in The Sunday Telegraph
newspaper, BT has been negotiating with the two
equipment makers for more than a year and could
announce the link-up later this month.

Under the terms of the deal, the newspaper said, Fujitsu
and Alcatel will supply equipment to introduce
Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Loops (ADSL) into its
phone network. These transform ordinary phone lines into
high performance data links capable of transmitting more
than 200 television channels.

BT is expected to begin rolling out the ADSL technology
next spring, in time to take advantage of the television
decoders produced by British Interactive Broadcasting, its
joint venture with British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC
(BSY).

The three companies are expected to invest an initial 500
million GBP in the ADSL system. However, under terms
of the deal, Fujitsu and Alcatel will retain ownership of the
equipment and lease it to BT.

Soon to come FTEL relationship expansion will be a clear sign that the customer has the say!!!!Why does FLOJ cut a deal with ORCTF and FTEL side with westell? SAME company, however FTEL biggest customer is BT and they say no to ORCTF because they want westell. The customer will tell its' data intergrator who's equipment they want to use. Just like BEL told DSC in the USA. Westell is positioned in the right arrangements. Now we just need the market to accept ADSL as a coming reality. I've been told that the recent LU end to end PR did not identify WSTL as co developer of their DSLAM and that questioned PR people at LU do not no jack. I will post my verification soon. However, I would like to ask...Does anybody know how many LU ESS switches have been installed to date..? I think its HUUGGEE and the upgrade to a ADSL version could be big $$$$ for both LU & WSTL..

dave--

good point, WSTL did make the announcement. but it was all over the press, so it seemed like leaks were standard practice at BT. in fact, when WSTL finally made the announcement, everyone already knew about it and the stock did nothing.

good luck to all,
trey
