LT, I've repeatedly argued in the past that Windows 98 will not be a driver for Dell sales. I cannot imagine someone deferring a hardware purchase because of the Windows 98 release. Many observers believe that it is really just a maintenance upgrade. A piece in the NY Time technology section last week discussed this at length.

The release of Windows NT 5.0, on the other hand, probably is such a driver.

So this particular sucker sees this as a non-event. Speaking of non-events, how does the drop in gold to under $300 fit into your doom and gloom scenario? Have you bought your previously owned (ca. 1960) personal survival shelter yet?

TTFN,
CTC

Everyone is making a mountain out of a mole hill with the
Win 98 injunction.

I have Win 98. It's Win95-OSR2 with IE4 and some extra
device drivers. Turn the animated icons off (they do
slow things down) and it looks just like Win95.

Of course, the psychology of the market being what it is,
an injunction will probably have some effect on DELL.

LT,

Zero effect! DELL will offer a 'free upgrade' to W98 when it is released. I got the same offer from Gateway when I ordered my NT system with 3.51. Upgrade to NT 4.0 was shipped free of charge.

Regards,

Ken
