i am not an expert @ athm.. but as a new ipo, or recent one, there most likely isn't a large float and there will probably be a large interest in holding the stock, so the intraday price can go where it may.
i think that stocks that like this will be momentum stocks that scorch the average short seller.
while completely disagreeing with your short to zero philosophy, i still believe in short selling as a hedge, especially when there are "safe-sex" or "condom" options that keep your portfolio from getting infected, while allowing you to get in on the action.
my rule of thumb is.. never short to zero and never hold a long position (completely) after a double.
