PS: has anybody commented yet on the iMAC's handle ? :>) Jim, first I heard of the handle was yesterday when my friend mentioned it to me. I was conducting my own little focus group, asking two friends the last time they'd used a floppy. One guy knew exactly what I was referring to as he's a former Mac user and had read the Chronicle the day before. He said they never use floppies at work (PG&E) and he doesn't use them at home either. He mentioned the handle. The other friend, a Circuit-City-shopping low-use PC type couldn't remember the last time he'd used a floppy either. And for the person who wondered if college students would like the iMac, my graduate student friend kind of fits the target market. He has an old Quadra, and the G3s in the lab have made him sick of it. He's now trying to figure out how he can afford an iMac in August. It doesn't tell us what the freshmen are thinking, but just more anecdotal evidence that the previous home users are interested. Alomex, no one was worrying about 15" monitors with the AIO. I assume the focus groups are okay with 15". I know my mom will be--she's using 13" now. In fact, I assume just about every of the old Mac home users that will upgrade will find the monitor a pleasant improvement. I know what you're saying though. The reason I didn't pick up a 20th anniversary Mac recently is that I can't use anything with a 12" monitor. I need 17" minimum. Soup, your options strategy looks pretty sound to me. One sour note--I got a forward of the iMac announcement that an old friend sent to his IS buddies and me. I think he's forgotten my loyalties. He said it was like putting lipstick on a pig, after you wipe it off you still have a ... Ignorance reigns, Marc
