CISCO INVESTS $6M IN REDCREEK -- Network security company RedCreek Communications said it will use the minority investment to support the growth of the company's infrastructure. The investment trails a partnership announcement the two companies made in January 1998, when Cisco said it would integrate RedCreek's IPSec-compliant Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology into the Cisco PIX Firewall product family. The Internet Protocol Security Standard (IPSec) is a standard for privacy, integrity and authentication of data passing over IP-based networks. "The success of our existing OEM relationship involving firewall technology with RedCreek substantiated our belief that the company's future developments will continue to shape the network security industry," said Mike Volpi, Cisco's VP of Business Development.
