watcher,
Datek has been going to add options "in a couple of quarters" for about two years now. Last time I called they said they hope to actually do it this fall. Their other weakness is they don't accept stops on NASDAQs. They won't do BB's at all, but I'm not so sure that's a weakness.
tradepbs.com has the best option commissions I know about, but I don't know much else about them. I called once to see if they allowed covered spreads. Their option manager was very rude and basically said there's no such thing.
mrstock.com is an online option specialist. They'll do spreads but not on line.
Would you happen to know any more about PBS or Mr.Stock? Where are you trading options now?

Hi Watcher -

Datek does not do options or BB's. They also do not accept Stop orders on NYSE or AMEX. They DO accept Stop orders for Nasdaq. Datek limit orders cost the same as market ($9.99). Their servers and their executions are fast. And you seem to get your $$$ credited immediately when you sell (so you can buy something else). Fast and easy, and has free realtime quotes.

For options, I have been using Discover (low option commission but really slow servers sometimes). I am opening an National Discount Brokers account for BB's (fixed rate for unlimited shares I think, for BB's and Nasdaq). They do options too. And they have free realtime quotes (limited I think, but more than enough for making trades).

Here is an excellent rundown on discount brokers, updated frequently.

Hi, Watcher

I see you got already the answers on your question. The only thing that I can add is that in my knowledge Datek was only one without any problem on October 28. I have Etrade also and it was absolutely frozen as others. I use Etrade very rare. Without real time you can do only long time investment. Michael
