I agree the money has to come from somewhere. There are also lots of 'assets' in terms of DEC businesses that could (and probably will) be sold off, which could offset the charges. I think the picture is likely to be unclear for at least 6 months. In the meantime we will have to pick through the accounting statements, do our own digging into what's really happening in the channel, and read the tea leaves. However I don't think the average wall street analyst will dig that deep, and I also doubt if the stock price will depend on what's really going on (have not seen much connection between reality and stock price for any of the tech stocks for a long time!! <gg> ). My bet is that CPQ will manage the spin quite well based on past history.
