Dog,

The 4.5 B check will go out right away when merger closes.

I disagree with your assertion that there is no connection between reality and stock price. I do not approve of the corporation's spin cycle. They did that for the last few quarters and damaged their credibility. that is why they are being sued.

I do agree that they will spin off some business units for cash.

OT...OT..
I subscribe to IBD, and several other financial magazines. To address the Barron's worthyness, I have tried several times to even find something, no matter how little, that would lure me to subscribing to it, and to be honest, in the past 4 years, I just could not find any...

It is just a recollection & summary of the past week, and with the age of readily available information with the touch of a button, I see no point of them even publishing that paper...it is a waste of trees...

Add to that the opinions of several AnalCysts, who are scrambling for any respect from individual investors....even those opinions are available on a daily basis through other dailies...I mean, come on...what's last weeks information worth for an investor given today's prompt availability of information...Nothing is you ask me...

They may have been market movers in the past...now they are nothing, and they prove it themselves by giving the publication away for free with those free subscription offers that I've been getting over & over for the past 3 years...I did take the offer several times, just to be disappointed and send them the bill with a "cancel" note, just what they told me I could do if I was not satisfied...exactly what they predicted...not even remotely satisfied...

All this is MHO...I'm sorry if it sounds a bit rude, all opinions are welcome.

Digital's Palmer Could Walk With $6.5M
(05/09/98; 2:27 p.m. ET)
By Joe Wilcox, Computer Reseller News

"Digital was once the third-largest computer company," said Jim Garden, an analyst for Technology Business Research, Hampton, N.H. "Compaq was just a spec in the rearview mirror, but they came up and rolled over Digital. Now it's road kill. No one could have imagined that 10 years ago."
