[N+I Part II] -Headed immediately to Nbase Booth. What a difference a year makes! Their display structure was like the bottom half of the Eifel (SP?) Tower - powerful, lean and mean (the display a 200-300% improvement over last year). They were now giving a video presentation (ca 30 seats) with free Nbase T-shirts given to presentation listeners (like the Big boys do). (Every time I went by there was a full audience). I asked for and got a T-shirt stating that I had been an investor for about 2 years and knew the Companys' products. Stripped off my Polo shirt and replaced it with Nbase T-shirt. (Might as well be a walking advertisement!) Looked for Noam and when he had finished conversing with a customer asked if I could meet with him. He said that he had a meeting with an analyst shortly and would meet with me at 3:30P for 10-15 minutes because he had another analyst meeting 4P. -Happy for the appointment, I meandered off to the Xyplex exhibit. On the way there, stopped by Galileo Technology (mfg of 10/100 base ASIC for ethernet). Looked at their customer list and there was Nbase. (They also supply BAY and CSCO among others). I was looking at the CSCO 10/100 ethernet box when the show rep came up to me and asked "where's yours?" assuming I was a Nbase employee. I explained. We spoke a little bit about vendor co-marketing and I told him that as an investor in Nbase I would definitely mention the idea to Nbase. -Finally the Xyplex exhibit. WOW! Looked like a space station. All wall/cube poster's were very tastefully promoting Nbase products under the Xyplex Brandname! Xyplex also had a video presentation theater (better than Nbase). Talked to numerous reps about how they felt about the MRVC acquisition and downsizing. As expected they were sorry to see friends lose jobs but were very glad "that this orphaned company had finally found a good home". -Of course, had to see the Edgeblaster (TM)! Spent about a half hour with the New Product Introduction Engineer. He was seriously looking for a new job last Dec. and is very glad he didn't pursue the search. He says working with Shlomo (who says lets do this or lets do that or will do that later) is very exciting. (Shlomo may provide strategic direction but Xyplex as tactical autonomy; there will be cost containment though as Edmund as relocated and purchased home near Littleton, MA.) Back to EdgeBlaster (TM): In beta tests in UK, France and Germany by large entities; domestically, in beta test by large IXC, 2 LECs and numerous ISPs. May have Edgeblaster in COs but major market segment will be small to intermediate enterprises. Throughout the show, every major competitor (both technical and marketing types) came over to Xyplex asking questions about the Edgeblaster, etc., etc. I said maybe "maybe this is a 'killer box'"; the engineer replied "i like that!" Look for very interesting Xyplex press release toward the end of May. End of Part II; more parts tomorrow.
