I'm not sure increasing market share will work without a strong media blitz. An exaggerated example: If all 20+ million existing Mac users bought new Mac's this quarter, Apple market share would spike way up but it could still be argued that the company was dying. This is the psychological environment we have to deal with. Actually anecdotal media evidence that 1st time buyers were opting for the iMac vice Wintel might do more than market share numbers by themselves.
As for the software side, I used to believe that Rhapsody could shake up the market all by itself. I don't believe that anymore. Without partners, the initial releases of Rhapsody will likely be compared to OS2 or of course Next and will be dismissed by the street. Especially since the initial releases are probably going to have a more difficult interface that average users want. Without partners, and given it's relatively difficult interface critics will be able to hammer it into oblivion. At least for the next year or so.
Who would the partners be - who's left that doesn't have a 64 bit OS. Only Microsoft as far as I know. Rich

Yes, Roy! I think you're right that there will be a drag on the stock price due to the bias against Apple. The people who think Apple is flaky and on its last legs and that Jobs will saunter away because he has a short attention span and no contract... all that will cause many to hesitate to give Apple its fue due in stock price. But this is also at least partially balanced by us Evangelistam who will give Apple a little more than its due. :-)

Up the revolution.
